Construction of a new access road through the West Suffolk Hospital Site to Hardwick Manor. Works included drainage to new soakaway, areas of no mechanical excavation in tree protection/root protection areas, new electric gates with keypad controls, permeable block paving surface finish, landscaping and planting, new timber fencing and ducting for new lighting and CCTV columns. We also refurbished the existing Hardwick Manor gates and installed new automaton, so these are now fully operational. we faced a couple of challenges with this project, the first one was the soakaway, this had to be moved due to the presence of chalk within the excavation, a soakage test was carried out under supervision to BRE365 to determine the suitability of the subsoils and subsequently the soakaway was moved. The second challenge was that two areas of the road construction were in root protection zones, this involved working closely with the clients appointed arboriculture consultant to ensure no damage was caused to protected trees during construction.
